From Snowy Oslo to Snowy Stockholm

I left Oslo as more snow arrived on Sunday morning, and moved on to arrive in Stockholm to be greeted with much the same white winter blanket welcome.  There is though something a little bit different here .. I am staying on a yacht.  A yacht in January I hear you ask .. and likely followed by “you must be mad”.  I saw the accommodation for the Malardrottningen Hotel ~ which actually works as a yacht hotel and restaurant.  It was an ex-working passenger ship that now sits on the water of Lake Malaren in the heart of Stockholm.  How cool is that?

A cool cabin and a sea view make for something very different, and that was exactly what I wanted from Sweden.

It was a travel day and a late arrival here in Stockholm so I haven’t got my bearings fully as yet.  I did head off to The Liffey pub in Gamla Stan tonight, and that led me to explore a little area of old town.  The Old Town is where Stockholm was founded in 1252, and it does appear to be a cool area with narrow winding cobble street roads – all of which are of course covered in snow right now.

As I get to know Stockholm some more tomorrow I will be able to get a better appreciation for the place, and I am looking forward to it.  Over night temperatures are forecast to be down to minus 7, so it might be a little bit chilly on board !!!

I took a few pictures as I scooted back from Old Town to the boat with the temperature dropping to finger biting levels there left no time to be hanging around.

  1. besutuful shots Phil. I love your yearly travel log:blog. Oslo and Stockholm look amazing. You also got me hankering for Dublin as well. Keep up the writing it helps pass the time here on BI. Keep it coming…how many countries are you up to now???

  2. Having been to Scandinavia before, it is glorious to hear and see your comments on these heavenly Old World countries. It’s so lovely to see them all coated in a blanket of white, so still and quiet. Happy to see you enjoying yourself and helping us all to deal with gray Bainbridge through your eyes. Keep on trekking!
