Having been staying in Nice it was time to return to Iceland for 1 more day before heading home to Seattle. I had an early morning flight to Amsterdam with KLM before a second flight a few hours later with Play Airlines into Reykjavik.
We did get some great views on the way to land on the KLM flight.

Reykjavik was awash with weekend revelers waiting to hit the bars. It was a bit of a letdown to visit Reykjavik, and I was so tired it was a challenge to head in the cold outside. I checked around, and I liked it less.

On Sunday I tried again and it recovered somewhat. I headed to the impressive Hallgrimskirkja church which is iconic in Iceland. On Sundays, it’s a small 30-minute window to get access to their sky tower. I managed to wangle myself to the front and got ahead in the lift to the top floor. For a couple of idyllic moments, I had the brilliant views all to myself. When dozens more arrived I was already off down the lift to escape. The views from the top are excellent.

I searched out some quiet spots and street art as I wandered Reykjavik for a couple of hours. As a place, it redeemed itself a little, but it could not match my previous visit when I drove around the Golden Circle. That would have been a lot to try to live up to. Still, I found some cool street art. Reykjavik is alright.

The flights on my trip have been truly manic, connecting all the dots to my destinations has been very complex. Seattle – Iceland – England – Finland – Lituania – Poland – Moldova – Austria – Armenia – Austria – Kosovo – Albania – Italy – France – Monaco – France – Netherlands – Iceland – Seattle. Some of these places were layovers. I went by train, bus, plane, and then a ferry boat home.
Apart from all those flights, I did a huge 428, 754 steps whilst on the trip, what can I say, I like to wander around! It was one heck of a jigsaw puzzle putting all those pieces together, but I did a great job with how everything worked out.
I’ve checked off all the Russian Republics, and all the Balkan Countries, but I have so many more Travel Completist goals to complete. Where to next?
