Have you ever gone to the airport and not known where you are going? Or ever kept a travel secret to let people wonder? Have you wondered what a Magical Mystery Tour would be like? At 21 I went on my first ‘Round the World’ trip and never told anyone.
Hiding a Travel Truth
Back when I was twenty-one I bought a ‘Round The World’ plane ticket that required me to travel with a group of airlines in a constant east direction around the globe. You can still buy them, though they are not as low cost as they were back then. When I booked that travel trip I didn’t tell anyone where I was going. The story was I was going to go to Australia for six weeks. It was only when I was in the car on the way to the airport that I dropped the bombshell to my mum that my adventures would include Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, and across the USA. It was a ‘bit of a surprise!
When I booked that trip, I got excited about it and talked to family and friends for weeks and months ahead, but never quite told the full truth. That was the dedication to the magical mystery tour that I did back then. It’s a story that still brings a few chuckles when I share it with people now.

That trip was long ago, but I have decided to do the same thing again. I’ve told everyone I am going to Iceland, which I am, but then the adventure will unfold. I don’t plan travel trips, I investigate. What links up to where, when, and how. It is an absolute jigsaw puzzle that often makes no sense, until it does. I find the building of an adventure almost as much of a joy as the actual travel. The ‘Explore Everywhere’ button on Skyscanner is one of the best travel tool inventions I’ve found when building an adventure.
