European cities more often than not, look good. Something Europe does well is history and architecture. Brussels is laden with both. The Grand Place dates back to the 17th century, and never has somewhere been more aptly named, because it’s grand, lovely and draws you in. Whilst wandering around I kept coming back, just to see if it had changed in the differing daylights. It’s beautiful…

Onwards to more beautiful areas of Brussels…

In the 1960’s Brussels became home to the European Union (EU) and somewhere that is reported constantly with discussions, debate and decisions about the future of countries part of the EU, which made it particularly interesting to me to visit the EU Museum which houses details of the history and the union how it works as a center for all it’s member states.
Other famous symbols to Brussels in addition to the Grand Place are waffles, chocolate and a little boy taking a pee! The Grand Place is truly magnificent, and will constantly centre you. It’s the very center of the city and full of tourists, and it is not difficult to see why.

Chocolate stores are everywhere. Belgium chocolate has been a major industry since the 19th century, but as I don’t like it so the stores were easy to ignore, almost. Even the chocolate stores decorate the city like Willy Wonka.

The Mannaken Pis is the rebellious emblem of the city. It’s a famous fountain for water distribution from the15th century. Essentially, its a little boy taking a pee!

A few more hours wandering this lovely city before heading into a local hostelry for food, beer and some Premier League football.

I’ll take some of that Belgium chocolate please!! 😜
