The Silk Road

My fascination with “The Silk Road” started five years ago with a UK tv program called ‘The Silk Road Adventure’, the story begins with Venice and Turkey, linking to Georgia and Azerbaijan, countries that I have been to and enjoyed in past travels . The tv show went on to go further East… so I am going further East.

It’s hard to overstate the historical importance of the Silk Road, it changed history, ideas and religion. and brought innovation that would change the world

This new adventure did have a twist in getting set, I booked my first flight months ago to go to Israel as the launch pad for my trip into Central Asia, but unfortunately, war recently broke out, and there are presently, no flights to Israel. It is a very complicated situation there, but not safe just now, so I have
re-routed.

It is not easy going to these Central Asian countries, some visas are particularly complicated, travel across the region not straight forward, and the norms of these countries are very different to where I am from , but the fascination with this part of the world is such that I have made all the necessary steps and looking forward to it.

On this trip, I’ll be likely going to some countries you’ve never heard of, or can’t spell.  They will speak languages that you, nor I, will understand.  Their Internet will block loads of things, apps won’t work, bank cards will be turned away and currencies will be mind-blowing numbers.  It will be cheap and it might be expensive, and some of that might be all on the same day.  There will be frustration, smiles, lots of air miles, and questions, more questions than answers, maybe.  Things will be different, or maybe some things surprisingly the same. You might wonder why?

I’m headed on the journey with a grand plan and happily will visit a new friend, Stan.

For now, I’ll look forward to what will be, and let the adventure unfold, in travel I trust If I was asked how many people have done the travel route I am about to take, I’m fairly sure the answer would be close to zero.

Come with me on my journey.
