For over two years now I have been in the throes of writing a book; as the saying goes there is a book in everyone. I don’t actually think that is true, because John le Carre has done loads, so he must have taken away someone else’s share. I started writing my book in 2016, and it has been an ongoing project ever since. An ongoing project that has not been getting very far very fast. I’m aiming for around 10,000 words for a children’s book, and after more efforts on a recent long plane journey I find myself 60% of the way there.
I have had the concept of the book all along, built the characters and put words to the mad thoughts that have gone through my head. When I say mad thoughts, this is a book about a 6-inch high sheep who is travelling the globe on a magic carpet with the Magic Man. Yep, it is aimed to be a kid’s book, so a license to use imagination is kind of a requirement. This reason is of course is why it has taken so long as I write something, change it, re-write, refine, scrap, re-start, improve and that process goes on repeat.

Which means I am now at a point where I have 6400 words that I really like. It’s a goal to finish it this year, but it was also a goal to finish last year too. So, I am now going with a strategy that it will be ready when its ready, and I am good with that. A mad pub conversation was a key ingredient to the latest chapter, but things are coming along swimmingly.
Of course, there are people writing books all the time, so who knows if this will go anywhere, but one thing I do know when this is finished it is going to be good. Beyond that I don’t really care. I am looking forward to getting it a little closer and building words on some of the latest ideas. Fun times in the “Amazing Adventures of Sheepy McTavish”
