Sparkling Stockholm

A hearty breakfast set up the day and a mammoth walk, mostly in the beating snow, but actually not so cold.  I have discovered that paper street maps are not the best in snowy climes, and have generally disintegrated before my eyes in both Oslo and Stockholm.  After just a couple of days here my Stockholm map is seriously showing the worse for wear.

In the morning I walked the entire perimeter of Sodermalm (a district of Stockholm) in the snow ~ it is no short walk, but totally enjoyable.  From seeing three dog walkers chained together and walking 25 dogs all at the same time, kids in school class doing sledging in the snow as PE, or picturesque views that were pretty as a picture in the winter snow, time and time again.

I came back to the hotel for a quick lunch and change before heading back out and towards the city for the afternoon.  The snow still continued to fall, though with less vigor, and eventually stopping come late afternoon.  It was just a matter of wandering and unearthing great spots, which is not hard, after all this is Stockholm.

The Royal Palace is the home of the Swedish King and has more than 600 rooms, so they could always turn it into a hotel if they decided to kick the king out !!

I carried on walking and exploring this great city until daylight went and it was time to head back to the yacht, or hotel as I call it.

From my first steps into Denmark: Scandinavia has been pretty amazing.  I’m looking forward tomorrow already 😉
