Ok, I was sold on Oslo already, it had no need to send me such a great day today, but I am thankful. I awoke to several inches of snow, and it was coming down strong until lunch time, but Oslo just kept on going. In the places I live in the world everything would have come to a standstill, but not in Oslo. The paths for pedestrians get snow ploughed first, and then the roads get done second, but nothing stops. Oslo was just so beautiful, so engaging. I was out in the morning snow that turned to sunshine by lunch time, just wandering. This place is a must see.
I started the day’s long walking tour towards Vigelandsparken Sculpture Park. This would be an interesting and cool place to visit, but with the winter snow on Saturday morning it just set the place off wonderfully. The pictures below say much more than I ever could – it was fantastic.
After the park I continued my walk and the sun came out to follow the morning snow, and Oslo shone brightly. Wandering wherever my feet wanted to go I found myself in Skillebekk, Akeg Brygge and Vik before circling back to the city centre to round out an enjoyable day. Well not quite … I did head back to the hotel to watch Burnley play QPR, and the Super Clarets were able to win 2-1 to brighten the day yet some more 🙂
In the morning I spent an interesting time taking a trip around the Norwegian Parliament, and learned some interesting pieces of history related to the country and the constitution. Not least that for a very long time Jews, Monks and Catholics were not allowed to live in Norway, and only after the 2nd World War did this completely change. I won’t hold that against them ~ this is a great country, and Oslo is a place not to be missed. I’m glad I came for sure, and I think these pictures say a great deal.
