A day trip north out of Croatia had me heading to Mostar in Bosnia Herzegovina. Micheal Palin once said that only by travelling by road or rail can you truly appreciate or get to know a country. It was great to meet Bosnia today. Just a few short months ago I couldn’t even spell Bosnia Herzegovina; so it was especially nice to get the chance to see the place first hand.
The territorial conflict within Bosnia makes it a thoroughly intriguing place to visit, and to appreciate the many positives this country has to offer. The drive in to see how things are was so interesting and enjoyable. Mostar (means bridge keeper) is a nice place to visit and the focal point being that bridge; the Stari Most. The verde green water is amazing on the eye, but I only wish my photos did it justice.
The drive was what made the trip the most fun. I actually went through border patrol on six occasions, and at times I did not even know which country I was in ! The Croatia Coastal Road is an absolute joy. It can get a little blase at times, but the reality is you end up saying woah… again, and again and again. I’ve been fortunate to drive coastal roads in Spain and Australia, and Croatia is right up there on the wow factor.
The Stari Most, Mostar – Built in 1566 and is the heart of the city of Mostar. It stood for 427 years before becoming a victim of the war in 1993. It took a decade, but the bridge was rebuilt and restored by 2004.
Heading out of Bosnia and back to Dubrovnik, Croatia long the route are some amazing views, its hard not to stop.

What a cool bridge. Do you still see remnants of the war?
