Dubrovnik Old City

A beautiful blue sky welcomed me to Dubrovnik and exploring Old City. The idyllic views around the place completely belay the fact that as recently as 20 years ago there was a Siege of Dubrovnik in the Croatian War of Independence.

The sea is a beautiful blue and the roof tops are rustic red that remind me of Florence. In the winter Dubrovnik is a quiet place, but it is not hard to imagine that this place would be amazing in the summer, pulling in thousands of tourists to enjoy this great town, more than a city.

On a personal point I seem to be trying to break every possible traffic law, though not intentionally  – obviously driving on the wrong side of the road; the guy in the other car was a little worried, but I was just laughing.. today I managed to go through a red light, drive without lights in both the day & night (you are supposed to use lights the whole time), went the wrong way up a one way street, scared the hell out of a taxi driver as I pulled a UK U-turn, which basically means you do a U-turn without any warning whatsoever, irrespective if there is a car coming or behind you !! and parking, well I am really not quite sure of the rules. But as Al Murray says “A beer for the gentlemen, and a wine or fruit-based drink for the ladies. Those are the rules. Where would we be if we didn’t have any rules? France. Where would we be if we had too many rules? Germany.” In Croatia, well who the hell knows.  I’m going with .. ignorance being bliss. The most amazing fact though is I have yet to get lost, which has kinda been disappointing actually, but I am driving to Montenegro tomorrow, so that should fix that.

As of yet I have not been impressed with Croatian food; maybe just hitting the wrong restaurants. Will keep working on that over the next few days. I’m a big fan of Croatian beers however, after Ozujsko yesterday, and I’m pleased to add Karlovacko today as today’s beer of choice.

Would have liked to get to a football game, but Croatian footy is on a winter break so no chance of seeing the local hero’s NK GOSK Dubrovnik ~ I’m sure they are brilliant 🙂
